Blank slate

Usually, when I sit down to write a post, I have something in mind. Either a recent event that I'd like to share for the laughs, or something I feel very strongly about for better or for worse. Despite the injunction to "make me laugh" from a friend for today's post, I find myself remarkably empty of ideas or opinions today. So instead, here's the chaos that will be my upcoming semester:

Keep in mind, those homework estimates are pretty conservative. Last semester's lit class (19th century) was a walk in the park; I knitted through all the classes, and wrote the papers the week that they were due. We didn't really have many in-class tests/ quizzes, so as long as you paid attention, you were guaranteed a passing grade. The syllabus for 20th century lit class, posted yesterday, looks like a literature boot camp. We have 100+ pages to read every night, in-class essay-style tests, a midterm, a final, and a final paper. Moreover, rather than just focussing on literature, the prof also intends to work art and architecture into the class. I do not expect this to be fun. I hope I am wrong.

The Russian language class will also be difficult. Last semester, we studied grammar terminology and vocab in Russian, and the prof warned us that this was in order to make this semester's classes 100% Russian- no English intended. Moreover, we will more that likely be working on translating Russian newspapers (fortunately, I've been doing this over my winter break, so I'm ahead there), and we will have to write a play in Russian for us to perform when the International week comes around. Again, I do not expect this to be fun, but reserve hope that I will be proven incorrect.

In light of all of this, and since there have been no objections, I will probably continue to use a mix of words, found images, and sketches to make my point here. Moreover, I am quite sure that once classes start (tomorrow!), I will have all kinds of opinions, things to vent about, and stories to tell. New year, new topics, same attitude to it all. Cheers!
