Whew! We're finally winding down the end of the year, and it's to sit back and consider the extremely different attitudes that people hold towards the holidays. I have a fairly relaxed view of most of the world (except when I'm driving, but that's a different story!), and when I see people rushing around, either trying to get everything done just right, or angry at the world for everything going on around them, it baffles me a bit. So to that end, here is my list of the different attitudes that people take towards the holidays:
1) Keeping up with the idea of the Jonses: Even if this person is the only one in the neighborhood to decorate, they will be the one with a display you can see from outer space. Every single thing that "should" be done around the holidays is meticulously done. Their place looks amazing, but you could use their nerves as violin strings, because they can't relax, there's just too much to be done!
2) Keeping up with the Jonses: These people have ideas of what "should" be done, but have tempered it with a little bit of sanity. Cookies will be made, but only a reasonable amount. There will be decorations, but again, not overdone. The focus is still on making things look nice, but it's not quite as psychotic as the first type.

3) Enjoying the holiday: These people will have made an effort to get things decorated and food prepared, but the main point of the season for them is to get together and spend time with the family. There is much relaxation, laughter, and fun, and not so much focus on the trappings of the holidays. These are the ones who say, "it's better to give than to receive," and actually mean it!
4) Enjoying the self: Similar to the above group, these are the people who are alone for the holidays and enjoy it. They have realized that they are comfortable with themselves, and can enjoy relaxing solo without forcing themselves into uncomfortable groups just for the sake of "not being alone."

5) Apathetic: For whatever reason, the apathetic people of the holiday season just don't care. Not to be confused with the people who only say they don't care, and then treat you to a tirade about why- those will be found at the end of the list. No, these people just treat the holidays like any other time of the year, and get on with their lives.
6) Bah Humbug: Frustrated with the crass commercialism of the holidays, annoyed at the way people use this time of year as a way to slack off from work, or miffed at the way everyone expects you to automatically be happy for an entire month (the nerve!), for whatever reason, the humbugs just want it to be over. And get out of my yard, you whippersnappers! I don't need your carols and cheer!
7) Angry at the world: No, really. Stay away from these people. With the proper amounts of self-realization and insight, these people could become members of groups 3 or 4, but they haven't gotten to that point yet. Instead of looking inside themselves for the source of their unhappiness, they choose instead to blame it on the world, and woe betide the person who attempts to point this out! Often, these people are freshly out of a bad relationship, and will spend hours telling you and anyone else in earshot how horrible the opposite sex is.
So take a look around, and see where you fall this season. Is it where you want to be? If not, how can you fix it? If so... well happy holidays, and I hope you have a fantastic new year. Cheers!
P.S. As always, credit for the pictures goes to google image search, and icanhavecheezeburger.com. The text on all the pictures is mine though. For some reason I'm getting dizzy spells when I try to draw today, so I did the next best thing. Enjoy!
